Fly-tipping is a scourge within our community. Is your council doing enough to tackle it?

Fly-tipping impacts almost two-thirds of farmers. Removal is costly, as well as often challenging and a long process. It can affect the operation of a farm and take an emotional toll on the farmer.  Most goes unreported given it is on private land. The latest government fly-tipping statistics show there were over 1 million incidents of fly-tipping last year and that doesn’t reflect much of the fly-tipping impacting farmers.

The Government has highlighted tackling fly-tipping as a priority as part of its Anti-Social Behaviour plan launched last month, but it's local authorities who are responsible for taking action. Now is the time to highlight the scourge of fly-tipping in rural areas and ask what your local council is doing to tackle the issue locally.
Is your local council:

1.    Issuing fixed penalty notices to prosecute perpetrators and deter potential fly-tippers?
2.    Promoting the household duty of care to make householders aware that their responsibility for waste disposal is maintained to its final disposal point?
3.    Accrediting all Council Enforcement Officers to become Community Safe Scheme Accredited to give them enhanced police-style powers to tackle littering?

Your local council has the power to make a difference on fly-tipping.

Write to your local councillor today calling on them to ensure their council takes steps to tackle fly-tipping and reduce the blight on the local area.
